ASIA has Programs for Intermediate to Advanced
Skiers and Riders
Our mission is to provide you with programs
which help you attain your alpine skiing, snowboarding riding and teaching goals. As an
organization, we started out years ago running entry level ski
instructor certification events. As we grew, the needs of our members
grew also. We have taken steps to accommodate these needs by adding
many exciting programs for your interest and enjoyment.
In today’s environment we look hard for value, price, performance, quality and long term enjoyment. Our
programs offer this to you in an organized, professional manner. Let’s
take a look at what programs may be offered at area events.
Alpine Clinics
Level I Teaching Certification
This 4 day program is for intermediate to advanced
skiers who want to improve their personal skiing or learn to teach
beginning skiing to others. Students receive four days of training in
three areas: personal skiing skills development, learning basic
teaching skills, and learning to demonstrate skiing to others. We
teach you "how to" teach others to ski, and how to explain
and demonstrate required maneuvers as a ski teacher. An on-snow
evaluation is given on the fourth day to determine if you have learned
what was presented and are qualified to help others learn to ski
safely.
Level II Teaching Certification
This 6 day program is for Level I Certified skiers
with one or more years of teaching experience who want to improve
their personal skiing or learn to teach students from the wedge turn
stage to open track parallel. Skiing, teaching, and demo skills are
further refined, while the technical, and mechanical aspects of skiing
are explored more fully. The skiing improvement portion is the
refinement of the skills required at this level to ski comfortably on
a variety of terrain and snow conditions. A one day on-snow evaluation
is held on the sixth day to determine if candidates have acquired the
skills to help students move toward the parallel phase of skiing.
Skiing Improvement
- Intermediate or Advanced
This program is aimed at improving your personal
skiing skills whether you are moving from blue squares to easy black
diamonds, or refining your skills on the most challenging trails on the
mountain. It's a
great way to find out about ASIA and its benefits, while tuning up
your turns in an environment of fun and safety.
Groomed to Crud to Scraped - Intermediate or Advanced
This exciting clinic is designed to develop your carving skills at
higher speeds on that great fresh groomed snow. As the snow gets cut
and piled up, we'll work on the tactics and techniques for skiing
bumps and crud. Finally, when it's all scraped off in the middle and
icy underneath, we'll get some tips on how to hold on that shiny,
challenging afternoon surface.
Steeps, Deeps, and Trees
This exciting clinic is for those advanced skiers who want
to challenge all the glades, groomers, steeps, bumps, powder and crud
conditions the mountain has to offer, with tips along the way. Bring
your water and energy bars! There’s sure to be lots of fun. Our
coaches know all the secret stashes and special places on the mountains!
Mogul Introduction
This two day program gets you off the groomed terrain and acquainted with mogul skiing. Moguls skied are on
beginner to intermediate
terrain and progressions provide a fun, easy approach to
learning bump skiing. Short radius turning skills are helpful, and
will be developed and refined in this clinic. It’s lots of fun and a
great ski experience.
Mogul Improvement
This clinic covers two days of working on
approaches to skiing better on steeper pitches and in varying snow
conditions. This program will help you capture the thrill of skiing
bumps to the fullest.
Teaching and Skiing On Short Shaped Skis
Short Shapes are not just for beginners! This program will
cover the teaching and skiing progression based on PSIA's
"Stepping Stones", a pathway that explores a direct
approach to parallel as well as our familiar wedge progression. We'll
be skiing on 110 cm to 140 cm short shaped skis, which is the
equipment the equipment many ski areas
are using to teach beginners.
On day one we'll be learning the "direct to parallel" methodology and
reviewing the wedge progression,
while tuning up our carving skills on the little skis. On day two,
we'll be taking our refined carving skills up the hill. So, bring your
short shaped skis or rent them at the ski area, and look forward to
laying down tracks.
