Program Offerings
Level 1 Alpine Certification - If you're looking for a job teaching skiing,
this event is just what you need to give you your entry level teaching
and demo skills. If you just want to start looking like a ski
instructor, the skiing improvement and technical
focus will get you there!
Level 1 Day 1
We spend the first morning skiing to get warmed up and get our ski legs
under us. For many folks these will be their first runs of the season! This usually means a few warm up runs and exercises to
hone in on fore and aft and side to side dynamic balancing movements. Then we'll ski through the tasks
we'll be expected to perform on evaluation day. These include straight
running, wedges, wedge turns, wide track parallel turns, short radius
turns and hockey stops. In the afternoon, we'll learn and ski the
teaching progression from the rental shop to linked wedge turns on the
beginner hill. You'll be the beginners and we'll be the coaches.
On day two, we'll start out the same, then in
the afternoon, we'll go through the teaching progression again, and
start having you become the teachers. We'll look at our own balance and
symmetry in the beginning skiing tasks and learn the cause and effect of
skiers' movements and how to enhance them.
On day three we'll work through all the skiing
tasks in earnest, to get ready for the evaluation on the fourth day.
There will be lots of practice and personal feedback to help you. The
third afternoon, you'll become the teachers, and get feedback as you
take your fellow candidates (the students) thru the progression from
never ever to mountain skiers.
Day four will be the on-snow evaluation of your
new teaching, technical and demonstration skills, and then you're off
and running! I mean skiing!
Level 2 Alpine Certification - If
you're an ASIA Level 1 Certified instructor (CASI), with 1 or more years
of teaching experience, you have the qualifications to take the 6 day
Level 2 Certification. The clinic dates are December 1-2, 2007, January
26-27, and February 2-3, 2008 at Belleayre. Level 2 will improve your
technical, skiing, and demo skills and present the methodology to take
your wedge turning students toward parallel skiing. For more
information, contact the ASIA office at (845) 679-4609.
Groomed to Crud to Scraped
is an exciting clinic designed to develop your carving
skills at higher speeds on that great fresh groomed snow. As the snow
gets cut and piled up, we'll work on the tactics and techniques for
skiing bumps and crud. Finally, when it's all scraped off in the middle
and icy, we'll get some tips on how to hold on that shiny,
challenging afternoon surface.
